Advanced digitalization for sheet metal forming and die casting
Gimic receives Vinnova funding for a collaborative research project focused on advanced digitalization for sheet metal forming and die casting together with RISE, BTH, and Volvo Cars.

Advanced digitalization is becoming a critical part of the future of industrial manufacturing. Gimic has been granted new research funding from Vinnova through the initiative “Validate research within advanced digitalization in real environments.”
The project, titled “Advanced digitalization of spotting patterns for sheet metal forming and die casting (Adsup),” is a collaboration between Gimic, RISE, Blekinge Institute of Technology, and Volvo Cars. The initiative has received more than 2 million SEK in funding over a 1.5-year period.
The purpose of the project is to improve precision, efficiency, and sustainability in manufacturing processes through advanced AI, image processing, and digital inspection technologies.
According to Marcus Nilsson, CTO at Gimic, the collaboration creates opportunities to modernize inspection and analysis methods within industrial production:
“Through advanced digitalization, we can improve accuracy, efficiency, and reduce both costs and environmental impact.”
The research focuses on:
Advanced digital inspection systems
AI-driven defect detection
Improved forming and casting precision
Reduced waste and production costs
More sustainable manufacturing workflows
Gimic continues to strengthen its position as one of Sweden’s leading companies within autonomous visual inspection systems. By combining proven hardware, advanced image processing, and AI-driven analysis, Gimic helps manufacturers improve traceability, product quality, and operational efficiency across industries.
The company’s solutions contribute to:
Increased production reliability
Improved working environments
Reduced resource consumption
Higher productivity and automation levels
The Adsup project represents another important step toward smarter and more sustainable industrial production environments powered by AI and advanced digitalization.
