AI-based quality control

Swepart + Gimic

Case Study Image

The Challenge

Swepart is one of Sweden's leading manufacturers of transmission solutions, producing, among other things, technically advanced gears, drive shafts, and customized gearboxes for global brands.

With high demands on surface roughness and dimensional precision, quality control is a central part of production. Previously, inspections were performed manually by experienced staff, which meant that assessments could vary between different operators and shifts.

Swepart needed a solution that could assess each product based on the same defined quality criteria every time and without slowing down the production flow.

The Solution

Gimic developed a solution based on Swepart's own quality criteria and integrated it directly into the company's automated production cells.

High-resolution cameras capture product details in motion, and trained AI models analyze the products based on Swepart's defined quality requirements.

The results are gathered in the Gimic Portal for monitoring and historical traceability.

Swepart currently has four Gimic units implemented in their factories in Liatorp and Sibbhult.

The Customer's Experience

"The benefits we have with our Gimic solution are that we now see constant and consistent results from inspections on our products. Thanks to Gimic, we have been able to automate our production environment to a higher degree. In the process, we get a better working environment for our employees and can free up the operators for more valuable tasks."

– Magnus Svensson, Swepart

Results

Precise and consistent quality control

Each product is assessed based on the same defined quality criteria, regardless of the operator or shift.

Full traceability

Inspection results are automatically documented, allowing Swepart to monitor quality over time.

Less dependency on individuals

Quality assessment is no longer dependent on the experience and availability of individual operators.

More value-creating work

Operators can be freed from repetitive visual inspection to focus on other tasks within production.

When quality control becomes part of the automation

Swepart's experience demonstrates how AI can remove a manual and individual-dependent step from an otherwise automated production environment.

The experience previously held by individual operators can instead be integrated into a repeatable process that is available every shift, every day.

This provides Swepart with more precise and consistent quality control, opening up possibilities for further automation of production.
